Ypres Belgium

If you're visiting important WW1 sites you'll probably be here at some point. Seeing the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate is worth the effort, as is a visit to the WW1 museum in the Cloth Hall. Other than that, the town is lacking in culture. In the winter it feels like a ghost town (apart from the numerous characterless chocolate shops selling mediocre chocolate to tour groups and rip-off prices). In the summer, the main square has street cafes and the atmosphere is a little more lively, although there is still not much to do.
