Comments and reviews of Macao
So far my fave place in Asia. A piece of Portugal in a far east chinese land, yet not so crowded by tourists.. but seems they´re trying to get them with a new casino city and hollyday resorts all around.
Get there is pretty easy from Hong Kong, no more than 20€ in a round trip ferry who covers 40 milles between.
Although the colonial influence is really alive in the architecture, food and traditional aspects, Macau is a chinese place. Even i found schools teaching in portuguese (so far all the kids outside looked like portuguese), or the portuguese languaje is in most of the notices and signs i could read around, none of the locals can speak it.
The old town is just great, with historical buildings, sweet shops, souvenirs, restaurants, playgrounds, etc that really can make you feel like you were in Lisbon. Although nobody looks like portuguese and you just listen cantonese and mandarin around. Perhaps that´s why it´s so special for everybody who visited Portugal before, and so check how similar and different both places can be at the same time.
